28/06/2011 - Loose Ends & Printing

Today was the last day of the college year and I spent it printing out work as well as updating some work and making the last few changes to my website. We do not return to college until the middle of September. So please do not expect to be seeing more blogs (I know how much you all enjoy reading these)

BYE!!!!

21/06/2011 - More Website Creation

This week I spent more time updating the website I started last week and almost finished it.

14/06/2011 - Website Creation

Hello All,

I keep forgetting to update this blog. On the above date we started to create a website with five pages and intereactive elements. I used dreamweaver to start creating this webpage.

31/05/2011 - College is off

Today we were not at college as it was half term. I was supposed to go to work however I had the whole week booked off on holiday :)

24/05/2011 - CSS

Today we looked at CSS which stands for Cascading Style Sheet, this helped me decide that I am not interested in development as it involves too much thinking :(

17/05/2011 - HTML

Today we looked at HTML and created a very simple website. Once we had done this we played around looking at tables in HTML which made my head hurt quite a lot!

10/05/2011 - Exam

On the morning of 10/05/2011 we had a functional skills exam. Once we were all back from the exam we started on the web development module. We covered all the basics so we could start playing around with HTML in the next week.

03/05/2011 - Playing Catchup

Hello again,

In today's lesson we played catch up with what we had not quite finished last week. This was due to the fact our teacher was still on annual leave but we used this time wisely. I finished off the flow chart that i had made a start on last week which was a process flow HR would have to follow when dismissing an employee.

Until next week... Goodbye. :)

12/04/2011 - More Laws?!?!

Good afternoon, another late blog I'm afraid but better late than never...

On the above date we covered Acts/Laws relating to dismissal. We covered Unfair dismissal, Wrongful dismissal and Constructive dismissal. Once we had discussed the above we had to create two flow charts relating to these.

Very brief I'm afraid but this is what we covered last week and I will cover it more in todays Blog.

05/04/2011 - Acts & Laws

Good Afternoon (Again),

On the above date we looked into Acts & Laws (as you can see from the title).

There were four subjects we covered:
Data Protection Act
Computer Misuse Act
Freedom of Information Act
Interlectual Property & Copyright

To decide which subject each of us were given we employed what was essentially picking out of a hat.

I was given Data Protection Act.

Once we had all discussed our findings, we had to mock up a Code of Practice explaing each subject for a new starter at each of our companies.

Until tomorrow, it's goodbye!

22/03/2011 - Wireless Networking

Good Afternoon,

Apologies for the late addition here.

On the above date we covered Wireless networks. The task we were set was to set up a Wireless Access Point. To do this we had to first set up 4 desktops however we only had 3 as it would have taken all day to find a fourth one that actually worked! We then had wireless dongles to plug in via USB and then set up the router uses the Out of the Box software. After the access point was set up we tested the connection by pinging each PC from the other PCs. Once the pings were successful we also checked we could get to an IP address. This was sucessful on all 3 PCs. Afterwards we checked whether or not we could ping the other Wireless Network that had been set up (we worked in pairs). After many attempts to change the configuration we were informed it wasn't possible.

Again, apologies for the late addition and I will now add last weeks post!

15/03/2011 - The life of a Packet

Afternoon all,

Today we had a new starter in the class so we ran him through the basics of what we covered so far in the course.

After he had a rough idea of what we had done, we started work on as you can see from the title:
"The life of a Packet."

This involved how a packet is transported across a network which would be okay but I found it quite hard relating to the OSI model which I would say I am rather weak on.

Next Tuesday we will be doing more practical by setting up a WLAN.

So until next Tuesday, Goodbye.

08/03/2011 - Practical (Setting up a Network)

Good morning,

Unfortunately I did not update this blog last Tuesday so today there will be two posts!

Last Tuesday as you can see from the title we set up a network. This was a more hands on experience for the class. We were told to fire up four computers (when we found ones that actually worked) and then linked them together through a Switch. Once we had all PCs up and running and connected through the switch we had to assign all of them a different static IP. When the IPs were all configured we had to test the connection by Pinging all PCs from each PC. Once we knew they were all talking to each other we had to share a folder over the network.

Once this had been done we had to put everything away and write up some documentation on how we did it, this was good practice for working on the HelpDesk because it is important to take note so that if you are absent then someone can pick up from where you left.

So until this afternoon, Goodbye.

Week 2

Yes that's right it's Tuesday again already!

This week at college we got a bit more technical with what we are learning. We created a document on Networking covering LANs, WANS, VLANs, IP, Addressing Schemes and Ports. This was enjoyable as the content was nice and technical in places. After that we had a short PowerPoint on the basics of Networks just to refresh our knowledge. In the afternoon was key skills in which we made a Questionnaire which we need to get filled out for next week in order to analyse the results.

That's college done until next Tuesday.

Thanks for reading,

Dan.

This Blog

Hi,

I've just created this blog. I am currently studying at Loughborough College as part of my Apprenticeship in ICT. I go to college every Tuesday and then for every other day of the week I work on an ICT Helpdesk with two other ICT technicians.

At college today I am first creating this Blog. After i have made a start on this blog I will be showing a PowerPoint Presentation that I created on Friday. The PowerPoint Presentation was supposed to be created on something that interests me. The subject I chose for my presentation was Rugby.
